October 5th, 2009 Posted by: admin
But it is Fiction they’re mature enough to know the difference between Facts n Fiction - why this one be any difference?
No offense to the catholic faiths - Just curiousity

because people actually think that it is true. it is a fictional story. he is just repeating ideas that have been around for years.
October 9th, 2009 at 04:18
Because Christians want to have a monopoly on works of fiction.
October 11th, 2009 at 04:54
Although it is not true it still says that the basis of the Catholic religion is false
October 11th, 2009 at 19:23
because it tells of a murder cover-ups by the Catholic Church. Please freak out if you say anything negative about the Catholic Church
October 13th, 2009 at 02:40
cuz it can prove we don’t need the church…
October 15th, 2009 at 03:00
It makes your have doubts about what they have been saying all these years……….
October 17th, 2009 at 15:10
because it maligns and misrepresents a real group of catholics called “opus dei.” haven’t read it, and i’ve resisted reading more about the controversy, as my friend has the book and i want to read it.
October 19th, 2009 at 02:53
Everytime someone makes a movie about religion - People start freaking out - Its just a movie!
October 19th, 2009 at 10:02
Because it threatens the monopoly that the Catholic church has on guilt & fear, and exposes the vatican for what it really is — a business, not a faith.
October 21st, 2009 at 20:26
Because for all these centuries all those puritans of the vatican and opus dei have tried to make us believe that *** is something dirty, and the book supports that Jesus had *** with Mary Magdalena.
P.S. Dan Brown is NOT being sued! He was acquitted of those charges some two months ago already! Some people are just ill-informed (or they pretend to be)!!
October 22nd, 2009 at 07:52
Some people, conspiracy theorists and the like, actually believe it, which upsets those who know it to be false. It is fiction, no one should get so wound up over it.
October 25th, 2009 at 13:08
Because it shows that Christ was married, whereas, christians believe that this is false.
October 25th, 2009 at 18:50
They want to sell the book so the Author used the idea that Jesus is married to Magdalene. Now some idiotic people thinks that the book is factual and they spread the word. That’s why it’s controversial. People are curious.
October 28th, 2009 at 06:51
What amazes me is how popular it is, given that it’s so crap. Dan Brown writes like a 7 year old. Someone actually comes back to life in the last chapter.
October 28th, 2009 at 07:35
Because it directly accuses and contradicts the Catholic church. Like the church doesn’t have enough legal problems, right? Murder coverups and claims of falsehoods in teachings make for a good “intrigue” movie. I guess the best way to find out is to see the movie for yourself. Have fun.
October 31st, 2009 at 04:47
its because its different and being different just really dosen’t sit well with the main stream public
October 31st, 2009 at 21:52
a) the ideas are stolen (in fact he is being sued on it) so this “new” mania is a symptom of ignorance of the past when the book most of it was stolen from also created a mania 30 years ago
b) it uses PROVEN fraudulent “reality” as a core basis (i.e. there was a man in french jail for planting fraudulent “documentation” about a secret society in an old parisian library, yet that documentation is used by brown in the book and in interviews about the legitemcity of his fictional ideas as real)
c) not only do “people think it is real” or factual, or plausable —DAN BROWN HAS APPEARED ON SEVERAL DOCUMENTARIES ABOUT ITS LEGETIMCY defending it as possibly accurate
d) there are more than enough real and semi-revealed issues with the history of the christian churchs that inventing stuff isnt really needed
and again, it is COMPLETE iction being treated as semi-fact, there is the major issue
November 1st, 2009 at 14:28
I havent read the book buit have seen doc. on the history channel from what i gopt out of it was the big misconception that Christ was never married to Mary M.
but I could be worng.
November 3rd, 2009 at 12:59
Because it conflicts with what we catholics believe in. It makes us question our faith. And when someone disses one’s faith, it is bound to be controversial. For me it is like when someone compares his God to other Gods and tries to discredit the faith of others.
You know. If you are like me who have read all of Dan Brown’s books, you will notice that the basic foundation of his books are controversies. Digital Fortress - NSA, Deception Point - President, Angel’s and Demons and Da Vinci Code - Religion.
November 6th, 2009 at 04:21
While the book is labeled fiction, Dan Brown has been very clever about claiming it’s “based on fact.”
Those “facts” really aren’t. They’re conspiracy theories that can be easily debunked. But a lot of Christians (of all denominations, not just Catholics) are worried that people are believing it.
If you believe Dan Brown’s version of Jesus running off with Mary Magdalene to worship the sacred feminine - then all of Christianity is a lie. He wasn’t really God. He didn’t take the sins of the world on his shoulders. We’re all damned.

Firstly to some of the previous answers, it is a historical Hypothesis. The events transpired 2000 years ago, how many first person sources and historical documents do we have? The New Testament is a religious text, it documents Jesus’ teachings, his message and parts of his life. It is not a historical document. It is composed of a number of accounts by different people, but these were selected by a biased group.
It is an alternative theory, it cites certain events, some references and customs of the time to help make it’s case but it’s not definitive, it’s a possibility, nothing more.
So why is it a controversy? Mostly because it’s a theory that runs counter to one of the oldest international organisations of the world. The Catholic Church has had the rights on public information and doctrine for a long time and the habit of denying and undermining counter thought is a hard one to break. The message or possibility does not run counter to it’s moral teachings, the guidelines in the New Testament about how to be a Christian are not threatened, merely a few notes of history. If a married man preaches aobut peace, is he less valid than a single man? This theory has been around for some time but this is the book/film that has managed to break through academic circles and reach the public sphere.
November 11th, 2009 at 16:19
the da vinci code is so controversial because it cant be proved either way weather its all fiction or all truth. we know for a fact that there is fiction encased in it and there is indeed some facts, the best stories told are both. the problem with it is that if some of the bit that all Christians would have us believe are fiction are in fact true then it would make the whole of Christianity a lie thus throwing millions of devote believers into despair the churches into ruins and the politics and control into chaos. It would like believing all of the bible without question even though it contradicts itself repeatedly especially between the old and the new testaments, Also some of the disciples wrote about Jesus 400 yrs after death. We have all heard of Chinese whispers!!!
November 11th, 2009 at 17:40
after reading the book i can see why the catholic church does not want this movie to be released. Even though this book is fiction there are a lot of people who will see the movie and may decide to question their faith and i think that is what scares the church. They feel that once the movie comes out a lot of people will actually believe what is in the film and move away from the church and it’s beliefs. But i am intellegent enough to know that this book is fiction and after reading the book i did some research on the net and saw the errors which appeared in the book and do not believe what the book said. But i feel that this book/movie well get people asking questions and will prob bring some back to the church.
November 12th, 2009 at 13:22
topics on religion will always be controversial because it can never be based on true facts just on varying interpretations of sacred beliefs.
November 15th, 2009 at 17:07
dat is ‘cos, its not all fiction, it has got facts…it has got history, dat mayb sum ppl would **** if revealed…it educates as wel as entertains us.wat we wil learn from dis book is goin to stay wit us 4 d rest of our lives…we hv learnt parts of history dat were unknown 2 us n wud hv been if nt for Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code.
Some readers spurn genre fiction, often due to a misguided belief that mass entertainment is always mindless dribble. For those of you who know better, The Da Vinci Code will make you feel justifiably smug. It’s that rare book that manages to both entertain and educate simultaneously. Dan Brown has managed to outdo the best of Robert Ludlum in this byzantine….and engrossing story. There is enough medieval history to please any historian and enough action to satisfy a ******** thrill-seeker. Combined, it makes The Da Vinci Code an early favorite for thriller of the year.

Because the premise of the story is that Jesus married an ex ********** and had a family and the ‘church’ doesn’t like it
November 18th, 2009 at 18:03
Because people believe that it is true, also people took Brown to court claiming that he took the ideas from their books
November 19th, 2009 at 07:57
just look below (or above)….i mean how many people have answered this question…it gets people going!!!!
November 19th, 2009 at 18:01
Because it could have been written by Jeffrey Archer (God help us)?
November 22nd, 2009 at 18:42
Because it presents the idea that Jesus was a man, and had the needs, desires and wants of a man. This goes against the doctrine of catholic faith.
The theory that Jesus had offspring and that the Grail was Mary Magdalene has been around for a lot longer than The Da vinci code book. It was presented in the book Holy Blood and the Holy Grail was well as others long before the Da Vinci Code was even written. That’s why Baigent and crew who wrote the aforementioned book sued Brown and the publishing company for plagiarism even though they lost.
The Da Vinci Code brought this theory into a mass market because it was told in a fictional story with interesting characters and an exciting story. The church is afraid it’s going to turn people away from what they believe is the truth.
To me it shouldn’t matter people should be allowed to find whatever answers they want whereever they want. As long as they don’t try and force those beliefs on other people. Unfortunately that just doesn’t happen.
November 23rd, 2009 at 18:51
Because is about the catholic church and the idea that Jesus had a sexual relationship with a ********** who gave birth to his child.
November 25th, 2009 at 18:01
Because it keep us all from questioning Iraq’s own Da Vinci Code:
W.M.D that were never found.
And whether America the US presence in Iraq is either liberation or occupation.
Now that’s a code worth debating and the media is already tired of it. So they give us the Da Vinci Code instead.
November 29th, 2009 at 00:14
Because it is trying to stir something which has been around since 2000 years with 2 billion followers worldwide. Even if Dan Brown classify it as fiction , it is still considered blasphemous to state something with is undermining the Christian faith.
December 2nd, 2009 at 11:18
It is controversial because it questions the most important fact in the history of the world: the truth of the Christian Gospel. There OUGHT to be controversy about important questions which affect everyone. However, the evidence DB presents against the Gospel is easily refutable, or at the very least not sustainable, in fact not really evidence at all. So although the controversy could potentially draw everyone in, it should not require participation any longer than about 5 minutes. First and last, it is a work of fiction.
December 4th, 2009 at 00:07
Well, quite apart from the fact that his “ideas” are nothing new, it is just such an appallingly badly written book that it’s amazing how many people have read it (and yes, that does, unfortunately, include me, otherwise I wouldn’t comment on it).
As someone said to me “it’s a book for people who don’t read”.
There are so many talented writers who aren’t recognised.
December 6th, 2009 at 06:29
I’ve not read it so I’m not sure but the impression I get is that it is some kind of blasphemy or an account of Christianity not in line with Catholicism so they don’t like it.
December 8th, 2009 at 21:16
because people are generally gullible fools with boring lives and no access to independant thought processes
December 9th, 2009 at 20:10
Because it uncovers the dirty secrets of the Catholic church.
December 10th, 2009 at 01:15
Because some of the sources he says he found his answers from are false. And of course you can see from previous people answering this question, the thought that jesus was married to mary magdelene.Of course it is fiction not fact,I hope people know the difference between fact and fiction.
December 12th, 2009 at 02:34
because sections within the book are true, if you haven’t read the book you will know it is so controversial
December 13th, 2009 at 03:20
theyre not mature enough to know the difference. suckers
December 13th, 2009 at 10:05
The book thrives on controversy, imagine suggesting that jesus had a child when he never married?
December 16th, 2009 at 18:04
The suggestion that Jesus had a mistress, and actually had children by her, rather undermines the belief that he was celibate, but the main point is that if he had children by her then he must have descendants walking around now; literally children of the son of God.
The book may be a work of fiction, but the arguments are quite persuasive (though the character by Jesus in Da Vinci’s “Last Supper” is very obviously female anyway), so not only is it quite a good story, but it is also quite a powerful attack on the underlying values of the Catholic church.
By the way, “DaVinci code” is not his best book, by a long way. “Deception Point”, “Digital Fortress” and “Angels and Daemons” are all MUCH better.
December 17th, 2009 at 14:17
It was not controversial, but was made controversial to have apublicity stint to enhance the sale of the book, as every body gets to curiosity to buy the book to know whar actually was the controversy. And the publishers were successful in it to achieve their target. this a superfine marketing formula.
December 21st, 2009 at 00:33
Because we live in a world where certain people spend more time believing in and “training” to be Jedis than they do looking for work.
It’s the “TV killed my independant thought” generation where people trust in TV more than God or there own instincts. 50 Cents really did get shot 9 times then sat down to have a toke with Jesus’ grandkids because it says so on TV.
I guess the religious just know that people out there are going to belive this film and don’t like how it’s going to reflect on them
December 24th, 2009 at 06:00
Unfortunately in these days of hollywood blockbusters there are many people who do not know the difference between fact and fiction, and assume that whatever they see on the big screen (or read on the internet) is the truth.
Thats why when you get such distorted interpretations of historical events (Braveheart, Titanic, any american movie about world war two, etc etc) people who are actually historians or have a real interest / passion get quite upset.
The Catholic Church is steeped in historically proven intrigue, mystery, politics, and darkness, however all of the basis for the Da Vinci code has been exposed as a massive hoax started by a French fraudster back in the 1930’s, who used to pass himself off as a nobleman who was part of this secret society. He was actually a petty criminal and actor.
The sensitivity is that the main tenat of the story strikes directly at some of the most holy beliefs of the Catholic Church, and that Hollywood has now packaged it for the illiterate gawping masses, who would probably never read the book (as it had no pictures) but will believe everything they see on the big screen.
If a similar book and film were made about Islam there would be demonstrations in the streets, flag burnings, ******* bombings and fatwahs on people left right and centre.
Its just another conspiracy theory gone mad and I have no doubt that the holy grail is in fact being kept on the double decker London bus which has been spotted on the moon next to Elvis Presleys chip shop.
December 26th, 2009 at 16:06
It is a load of guff anyway.
December 29th, 2009 at 19:03
Simple, the book contained references to groups and organisations that certain parties in organised religion do not want people to be aware of.There role in the book maybe nothing more than fiction. But interest in and attention to these “secret” groups has rocketed.Theres a lot of uncomfortable people out there now.
